Is "ETHOS Prep" the same thing as the ETHOS exam?
No. ETHOS is the real, specific name of a written entrance exam used by multiple B.C. municipal police services — confirmed directly on Surrey Police Service's and Vancouver Police Department's own recruiting pages, not a marketing term ETHOS Prep invented. ETHOS Prep is an independent preparation company named after the exam it helps you prepare for — the same way "MCAT Prep" refers to a test it doesn't own or administer. We have no role in writing, administering, or scoring the actual ETHOS exam, and we don't claim to know exactly who does — see the next question.
Does JIBC administer the ETHOS exam?
We can't confirm that, and we no longer state it. Earlier ETHOS Prep copy repeated a claim, common across competitor prep sites, that the exam is "administered through JIBC" (the Justice Institute of British Columbia). Checking JIBC's own published pages directly found no mention of entrance-exam administration — only post-hire recruit training at the Police Academy. We removed the claim rather than keep repeating something we couldn't verify at the source.
Is ETHOS Prep affiliated with the RCMP or a municipal police service?
No. ETHOS Prep is an independent preparation service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of the RCMP, any municipal police service, JIBC, or any other law-enforcement agency.
Are ETHOS Practice scenarios official test questions?
No. All ETHOS Practice content is original material created by ETHOS for preparation purposes. It is clearly labelled as original practice content and is never presented as official, leaked, or confidential agency material.
Can ETHOS guarantee I'll pass or get hired?
No, and any preparation service that claims otherwise should be treated with skepticism. Recruiting decisions are made entirely by the hiring agency based on criteria ETHOS does not control. ETHOS builds genuine readiness — the outcome is always the agency's decision.
Do you have access to confidential recruiting information?
No. ETHOS Prep does not possess, seek, or claim access to confidential assessment content, scoring keys, or internal agency criteria of any kind.
Does ETHOS have real police-recruiting experience behind it?
Yes. ETHOS Prep is built from firsthand experience with Canadian public-safety recruiting and training, including going through a real applicant screening and interview process. See About for more. Is ETHOS Practice free?
Yes, today it is. The full resource library, all five B.C.-municipal ETHOS Practice training disciplines, the dedicated RCMP practice track, timed Mock Assessments for both, and Interview Lab are free to use now, with no account required. As the platform grows, a paid tier is expected to add substantially deeper, expanded content on top of what's already free — see Pricing for the current, provisional plan.
Which police services does the Application Roadmap apply to?
The Roadmap ships real, sourced profiles for the RCMP and five B.C. municipal agencies — Surrey Police Service, the Vancouver Police Department, Delta Police Department, Abbotsford Police Department, and the New Westminster Police Department — each built from that agency's own published recruiting process, plus a generalized "Common Preparation Path" for applicants who haven't chosen a target agency, or whose agency isn't yet a supported profile. It's not a claim that every Canadian or even every B.C. agency follows the same sequence; requirements and steps vary by agency and change over time.
Are POPAT results I log on ETHOS official?
No. Every POPAT time you record is self-reported — you're logging your own practice attempt, on your own device. It's never verified by ETHOS, a trainer, or any agency, and the product labels it "Self-Reported" everywhere it appears.
What does "self-reported" mean on the Dashboard and Roadmap?
It means the data came directly from you, typed into your own device, with no verification by ETHOS or any third party. Nothing on ETHOS is described as verified unless a real verification workflow actually exists — today, none does.
How current is the recruiting information on ETHOS?
Every resource and roadmap stage that states a real process fact shows when it was last reviewed against an official source. Recruiting requirements do change — where a page shows a review date, treat that date as the freshness guarantee, and confirm anything you're about to act on directly with the agency.
How should I verify a requirement I read on ETHOS?
Go to the specific agency's own recruiting page — not a forum, not a competitor prep site, and not this one — and check the current published version. ETHOS sources what it states, but agencies are the only authoritative source for their own current requirements.
Can ETHOS help with the psychological assessment or background check?
ETHOS does not, and would not, provide guidance intended to influence or manipulate a psychological screening, or to help conceal information during a background investigation. We support honest self-reflection and readiness, not deception.
